Set along a river and cradled by a nature preserve, a midcentury home in Lincoln, Massachusetts had the potential to be an idyllic modern retreat—one that would flow effortlessly between indoor and outdoor spaces while embracing the surrounding landscape.
Interior Designer Jaime Baird, Hutker Architects, and Sea-Dar Construction took on the challenge of renovating the home, maintaining the original roofline while reimagining the interiors to create an organic-inspired haven for a family with a love for the great outdoors.

Throughout this transformation, stone selections echo the home’s natural feel and showcase the exquisite craftsmanship of Cumar Marble & Granite. With bold-veined marbles and custom edge details, each stone selection was thoughtfully curated to enhance the home’s refined yet earthy vibe.
The Kitchen: A Marble Masterpiece
At the heart of the home, the airy kitchen features a jaw-dropping stone moment. Custom rift-sawn white oak cabinetry by Herrick & White is complemented by a striking Calacatta Viola marble backsplash and countertops, sourced and fabricated by Cumar. The honed finish lends the marble a soft, velvety feel, while a custom edge detail on the island enhances its organic fluidity without overwhelming the space.

“The subtle curvature of the island is accentuated by this detailing, making the design feel harmonious and intentional,” says Carlotta Cubi Mandra, President of Cumar.
Powder Room Drama
In the powder room, Custom Chianti-colored Venetian plaster by decorative painter Iris Lee Marcus sets the stage for a stunning Breccia Viola marble vanity. With its rich veining and dramatic contrast, the stone is just the right pop of dimension in this jewel box.

The 8-inch mitered apron, floating shelf, and custom-matching marble mirror frame create a seamless design that celebrates the stone’s bold presence. “Breccia Viola shares similarities with Calacatta Viola but has an even more pronounced veining, making it perfect for a statement piece like this,” notes Cubi Mandra.
Serenity in the Primary Bath
For the primary bath, a spa-like essence was key. BluBlk designed floating mirrors that hover over a white oak vanity topped with Calacatta Viola marble, its delicate veining lending gentle movement.

One of the project’s most meticulous details was the seamless finish of the marble backsplash’s backside. “Since the window drops lower than the vanity top, we had to ensure every visible surface looked intentional,” explains Cubi Mandra. “It’s an example of great design that balances the homeowner’s desire for a larger vanity while preserving the window views.”
Playful Hues in the Guest Bath
Vibrance glows in the guest bath, where Esmeralda onyx introduces a rich green hue atop the custom vanity. Set against Ann Sacks green terra-cotta tiles, the stone’s natural variations add depth and movement, while a 4-inch mitered apron makes the vanity feel bold and sculptural.

“The beauty of this stone is how it picks up on the surrounding colors, bringing everything together in a dynamic yet balanced way,” Cubi Mandra explains.
Set in Stone: Cumar’s Enduring Craftsmanship
